At 513 metres above sea level, Mount Barker Summit provides panoramic vistas of the surrounding area from Mount Lofty to the north-west, Mount Barker township and the Cream Bowl to the west, Lakes and Coorong to the south and the Bremer Valley to the east. There are a couple of walking trails to experience with the most popular just 500 metres return from the car park to the summit. Alternatively take the approximately 2-kilometre circuit trail around the summit to discover important conservation areas protecting valuable biodiversity. Interpretive signage explains the historical, geological and cultural significance of Mount Barker Summit, which is also very important to the Peramangk people, the traditional custodians and caretakers of the surrounding country. The Mount Barker Summit Reserve car park gates are open from 8am until 6pm daily, and until 8pm in summer. Mount Barker Summit is a 40-minute drive from central Adelaide via the South-Eastern Freeway (take the Bald Hills exit), or ten minutes from Mount Barker and around twenty minutes from Hahndorf. There are picnic tables between the car park and the summit.
